Hospital discharge performance
The Council works with the NHS Humber and North Yorkshire Integrated Care Board to support the timely discharge of patients from acute hospital beds into a suitable care setting. Performance is reported quarterly.

Nationally, around 1 in 7 acute hospital beds is occupied by a patient who no longer meets the criteria to reside but has not yet been discharged, most commonly because a home care package or residential placement is not yet available. The Council's figures are consistent with this national picture.
The estimated cost of an acute hospital bed is £395 per night. This cost is met by the NHS and does not fall to the Council.

The figure is the daily average proportion of acute beds occupied by a patient recorded as medically fit for discharge who is awaiting the start of a domiciliary care package, a residential or nursing placement, or a period of reablement, as reported to the Integrated Care Board.
